Is it possible to backup your LG GM750's contact-list without Outlook-Sync? Yes it is. At least you may use your old contacts after a hard-reset.

As there's no (official) way to extract your contacts from the mobile without using Microsoft's ActiveSync, you will face the following problem: ActiveSync keeps telling you to install a damn email-client, even tough, you have a working copy of Mozilla Thunderbird and no interest in replacing this with MS' Outlook (Express). Shit.

So the very simple way to "survive" the hard reset is this:

1. connect the phone to your computer
2. copy the file pim.vol from the root directory of your phone to your computer
3. hard reset the phone Please make sure you backed up all data. I'm not responsible for any data loss!
4. use the phone's file manager to rename the pim.vol file to pim.old (or anything else)
5. copy the old file back to your phone
6. soft reset phone
7. you're done. Contacts are back :-)

So this is what worked for me. I'm not responsible for any phone you f*ck up - if you don't know what you're doing - don't do it! Hope this post is helpful to some folks out there...
